You must own shares because I tried the Obi100 but it doesn't let me use my phone on video calls so it appears to be an antiquated technology out of the box.

It doesn't even show the caller's name !!!

You must be kidding. This is 2012 isn't it ???

@StuartGold

Your comment makes sense because the Obi100 was actually developed by the same exact guys that invented the first standalone VoIP phone adapters back in the 1990's with a company called Komodo Technology later picked up by Cisco. They then started Sipura also later picked up by Cisco.

It is just a shined up version of the same cookie cutter stuff they have done in the past with a new marketing spin.

So you were pretty much spot on with your comment about the Obi100 already being antiquated technology out of the box.

If you want to do video conferencing using your phone, you will need to go with something like the GVJack program and a MagicJack. The MagicJack does not have to be new.

I actually use my phone for regular phone calls and also use it for Google+ video calls.

I can confirm that it does display the name of the caller when a new call comes in and even speaks it out so I don't really need to look at the phone display.

I picked it up on sale for about $15 and have been using it for about a month now. It is definitely worth a try.

I try Chrome from time to time but I prefer Firefox. It's more flexible and user friendly and I don't like being sucked into Google's vast data gathering exercise especially now that many users don't realize they haven't logged out.

Not often I fail to recommend a PCW article but on this occasion I want to air my views about Chrome. When looking to update, i.e., from IE8 to Chrome I expected an improvement not the inconvenience I have experienced especially with Bookmarking my Favourites. I DO NOT want to remember the alphabetical letter of the first word of the item. I often bookmark an article from PCW or Yahoo for example and only need to remember the subject matter. Also the convulated way one has to bookmark with Chrome is pathetic. The rest of the inconveniences are listed in this article. It is always 'change for change sake' as I see it.

I just signed up for Google Voice on your recommendation, Rick, specifically for the free texting. But next to my big red "call" button there is NO "text" button. Google Voice's help files don't seem to mention it, except to say that the button is at the top left of the screen.

I'm noticing the same thing.

My default browser has been Firefox for many years now...but only because it's better than IE. I'd love to switch to a browser that has really GOOD technical support,which NONE of Mozilla's products do (just try doing a search on their help page or find an add-on). I try Chrome about once a year to see if it's become more user friendly, and just tried it again recently. It's better, but as others have pointed out, is still unintuitive and obfuscates the most common functions. So once again, I uninstalled it. Will try it again next Spring!
