You can give your old Android smartphone to your kids if you install the Kytephone free app from the Google Play appstore. Kytephone transforms any Android into a kids phone by providing a kid's friendly interface and a safe sandbox, so they cannot access your emails or the browser. It also has a safety features for the parents, allowing them to control and monitor their kid's activity on the phone. Check it out at www.kytephone.com
