The backup time seems really short so I sure hope the Diesel Generators are up to the task of starting fast to reach a stable load in that time, particularly if they are exposed to normal outdoor temperatures. My experience at communications sites in Alaska years ago with much older and less sophisticated technology would give me pause, particularly in the winter. If the generators were in buildings protected from the weather, it would be better.

I would love to be able to take a tour of the actual data center and the cooling and power generation setup. Perhaps Facebook could provide a virtual tour of the completed facilities. I would also hope there would be further explanation of their SCLs and their implementation of the network interfaces.

Interesting stuff. I think I would have used a locaton close to the many wind farms around the Columbia Gorge, but Prineville is a beautiful spot and I'm glad to see a major company willing to build a facility in a small, remote city. There must be a great high speed fiber link running through Prineville or this wouldn't be possible.

How about an article about the SCLs (IT switches) and network management up through their internet connection showing how they pulled this off in a remote high desert area.
