Attack Of The Expanding Smartphone Screens

bottom line for me.. as an iPhone user, I am ready for an increase in screen size. 3.5" was fine back in 2007, but times have changed. I don't want to hear anything from these blind Apple loyalists, saying that the screen size is perfect as it is. It's not, and those same people will be among the first to say how the new screen size is perfect. So yeah, I'm definitely counting on a larger screen for the next model (and I'm curious about how they'll change the screen resolution).

I just got the Galaxy Nexus after 3 years with a Nokia XM5800 and all I can say is "wow"! It was a little unwieldy at first but now that I am used to it I don't know how I managed before. Just typing a simple text message is faster due to the decrease in mistakes from hitting the wrong letters. I will say though that this phone is at about the limit of what will comfortably fit in my pocket.

Different strokes for different folks. Definitely falls into the category of "personal preference". I do think that a lot of the movement to larger screens is to differentiate competing products from the iPhone.

I have a first-gen Samsung Galaxy S and at 4.3" it's perfect for me. Can't really see going bigger, might be ok w/slightly smaller, say, 4.0, but the 3.5" iphone seems way too small. very curious to see if they go w/a bigger screen for the next round.

As a Galaxy Note Male user, I think 5.3in is ok, but in the future a thinner flexible phone would make the size more manageable. The Galaxy Note allows my fat fingers to finally be able to type on a touch keyboard, and its speed makes it good enough to replace my netbook (which I am selling).
The S-pen is useful but it may be more useful once they release the ICS update.
For woman, I think the limit could be between 4.0 and 4.5 because their hands are smaller on average, and they have smaller pockets on average.

I too have a phone with a 4.3" screen (Lumia 900). I moved up from a bottom-feeder flip phone I've had for years, treated myself when the Lumias were essentially free. The phone feels huge when I'm actually using it as a phone (now there's a concept) but I'm getting used to it, and I'm appreciating the larger screen size when doing all the other things you can do with a smart phone. Would I go bigger? I'm not sure yet --- I'll let you know when the contract expires on this phone.
