I agree that the limited size screen is a waste with the new interface. If RIM wants to retain a physical screen option, and I totally understand the appeal, then they need a device like the Palm Pre 3, which offered an iPhone size screen with a BB size slide out keyboard. It won't be thin, but for the user that wants a keyboard thin will not be a requirement anyway.

I simply disagree. For business use, the standard BB screen is just fine, and very convenient for email and messaging. And that, tyvm, is most of what us business users SHOULD be doing during the day, not playing games on a larger screen. RIMM should have just 4 phones. A full touch screen, a bold, a sliding keyboard phone, and an inexpensive curve, and thats it.

The author is correct, RIM has to do something and it may just be time to abandon the Bold style of phone. I don't know if the bigger screen would work for RIM, but I know most of my customers did not enjoy typing on the Bold's keyboard. They also did not like the resolution for reading documents. Anything other than reading email was useless on the Bold. RIM needs to make the phone easy to use for more than just email. You have to give the customers options when it comes to Apps. There has to be a better portal for customers to get those apps, Blackberry App World is not that great. RIM's biggest asset is it's encryption method for all data on the device. Build upon that and it may win back it's previous business customers.

Looking at a phone like that one shown above reminds how dated that design is, and reminds me of those old movies showing people talking on the first car phones or portable phones..., phones that resembled something the communication officer in the Marines would carry around in Vietnam and weighed about 50 pounds.

If blackberry wants to appeal to a slowly fading out group of hangers on to old tech, yeah, it's great design.

But it's almost to the point where people see a phone like that, and snicker.

Has anybody seen the 'Blackberry Boys' advert. Blackberry has tried to change its positioning from a complete business phone to a phone for fun use.
So BlackBerry should go the way the world of smartphones is moving. It should chuck out the physical keyboard from its phone' face.
And yes, as it has changed its positioning in the market it should expect users to play games and watch movies on it devices rather than just sending mails and stuff.
Moreover typing on a capacitive touch is less straining on the fingers as one doesn't have to exert force on a 'key'.
Coming to its looks, I personally don't like the curvy looks of BlackBerry.

I love my blackberry bold 9900 i wish you can play games on it. I love the build quality and the style of the bold 9900.
