I have a 1.5tb Hard Drive which I purchased 15 months ago. Windows 7 say I have a disk error and should back up immediately. I ran CheckDisk / Fix which found and repaired 10 bad clusters. Is my Hard Disk now safe? and how long will it last?

Brian: Welcome to PC World forums. Bad sectors on a hard drive doesn't always spell diaster but I would keep an eye on things. If the sectors were identified, marked as bad, repaired(addresses noted and spared out) and no files were left corrupted then I would certainly make a complete backup NOW. If any more sectors erupt and fail, replace the drive before going any further with that drive.

BACKUP.

The #1 things people will kick themselves over is failure to backup their data.

What a coincidence, my name is also Brian. :)

First, as others noted, BACKUP THAT DRIVE NOW!

Second, download a program like Seatools and run a short DST on it. (note: that tools is provided by Seagate, but will work on any manufacturer's drive. I've heard that it might give you a warning about hard drive temps on a non-Seagate drive though, so ignore that.) If you're still under warranty, you might want to RMA it.
