Yep, that is correct. Since the article is using Java as a example Firefox itself could be compromise. The article points at a problem no solutions so I agree but what can I do. All people can do is to patch and follow security precautions.

Honestly, I didn't know Java still existed. I haven't downloaded or used it in many years...on my home machine or at work. And I have yet to come to a website that requires it.

There are programs that take java as source and are purported to produce C# (linux Mono). C# is open non licensed source, unlike Java.

I didn't see anything in this article that told me why I can't dump Java.
