I took the windows challenge and traded an old blackberry for a HTC Titan. I also use a Galaxy Note as my daily driver, but over the weekend I used the Titan to test out Windows. Overall, I would say the OS is smooth but has a lot of growing up to do. What I liked was that it was smooth, the tiles looked different in a good way, and Bing integration had some cool features(like visual text translations using the camera).

Now here are things that really need to be worked on. There's no good Gtalk client. I tried a few, including IM+ but it was horrible and unreliable. Also, the wifi goes to sleep whenever the screen is off for more than 30 seconds. This bothers me cause it eats up cell data and also I rely on wifi for a more consistent internet connection(for things such as gmail and push email). The battery and notification bar at the top also has no option to be always showing. That's annoying. Lastly and most obviously, there's a huge lack of apps.
Return it immediately and get the Nokia Lumia 900! Problem solved.

Truly a hate article. To say "no one is buying" is incorrect, not to mention insulting to the millions of people that made AT&T run out of stock on the lumia for the last few eels.

LG has stated that rumor is false over two days ago and you are obviously selective in what facets you like to pull. Competent reporting would have had you search for LGs latest article or get a comment from them.

This is atrocious reporting at its best.

What a work of fiction. Probably written on his MacBook.
I have a first generation Windows Phone and still love it 17 months later, that's why I'm going to replace it with a Windows 8 Phone when they come out.

by all reports wp is actually gaining a small share. from 1.3 to 2% win mobile is losing share. you would expect that if you took winph and winmob and put the sales side by side. WinPH would be outselling winmo by tons. Mostly because no one can buy a winmo.

LOL MS stacked the deck in their favor, also half those tests are based on network speed unless you are both going to do it over Wifi on a unbias hotspot. Also Metro UI is ugly as sin.

WP7 is a wonderful platform if your life revolves around constant contact with whomever gives you "likes" on the various social networks.
And, pinning all your hopes on Nokia? Did anyone at Microsoft look at their books beforehand?
And the hardware... single core processor, no memory card, low resolution screen. No thanks.

Yes, I have heard that you cannot upgrade a WP7 phone to Win8. That's a shame. I wonder why Microsoft would allow such fragmentation.

Windows Phone Smokes..
..But No One Wants It!!

You know WHY?

Because it's DUUUUUUUUUUUULL ! !

Faster speeds CANNOT SAVE WP7 or 8..

..as long it looks it was designed
in MS Paint with the square tool!!

as long as WP7 LOOKS LIKE
it's in SAFE MODE..

..people will NOT buy it ! !

1 color squares?

SQUARES ! ! ?

Who would want to buy WP7 or 8 to stare at
HUGE ONE-COLOR Squares all day long?

No matter how "LIVE" those squares are.. people don’t care.

People want a cell phone that is nice to look at..

WP7's user interface is so dull to look at..
Even Windows 95 in SAFE MODE looks better.

Hey, even the old Windows Mobile 6.5 looks better ! ! ! !

Just this one and only this one alone
is a TOTAL MAJOR TURN OFF from WP7..

I dare you to take a look and compare..

..which phone UI looks better:

This is the worst post I've read all week. No substance to your complaints, other than I don't like how it looks. What about how well it works, never crashes, is fast, easy to use unlike a BB, and easier to use than a Droid unless you are a complete geek. I don't like your blue car, therefore it is lousy...it should be red or green. That's the substance of your post loser.

I think this person is right. It is so horrible to look at a Windows Phone. What is with the squares? I work for a major hospital in I.T. We support over 5000 end users. Over the past few years I have done mostly all of the MS Exchange configurations (around 800 - 1000 Exchange connections over the past 4 or 5 years)and have not done 1 Windows Phone. Not one! It looks like the UI was created for my 3 year old nephew. The UI looks like one of his Leap Frog toys. It's horrible. It my be fast and it may be a great device but guess what? Most people will never know. I love mobile tech and read a lot of articles and get to try a sh!t ton of devices becuase of my job. Most people don't. So it seems true that these devices are not selling. If they were I am sure I would have seen at least one by now outside of a mobile store.

I support PC's and am a wiz with Android devices so I guess that makes me a geek. But guess who recommends these devices to people. The geeks! And until you can convince me and the rest of the geeks that these devices are worth trying they will never compete and sell like Android and iOS. I hate the iOS. But I recommend iPhones all the time for the "not-so-techy." Android FTW.

Even if I were interested in a Windows phone I wouldn't buy one right now since the word has been that they won't get upgraded to WM8. Why would I spend money on a new phone with an OS that will remain static for the next 2 years?

It's no rant. It's personal experience. And the fact that not even one person out of 5000 has decided to even try Windows phone should tell you something. I've seen the UI and it obvious it's simple to use. I use and support Windows. I can operate a Windows Phone. But there is no attraction at all to those devices. They don't look good at all. That is what I am saying. Don't try to strip my post down to a rant because your offended.

I think you should use something every day for a few months before commenting. I've owned two Android phones and an iPhone 3Gs. Windows Phone Mango is a superior interface and the Nokia models are awesome...

What Android phones and what OS were they running? How is the interface superior? Really, I would need to be really convinced to want to try one. They look like garbage. The current models can't be updated and the tech specs can't compete with any of the new Android devices or iPhone 5 or 4S specs for that matter. The "Smoked by Windows Phone" contest was rigged. We get so many devices to test all the time. We get many Android tablets, Windows test tablets, laptops and iPads. We have a team of over 150 technicians across my department. We all use and support Windows on a daily basis and for most of us it is our OS of choice away from work. But yet for some reason not 1 person that I know of, almost all of which are very technical, have numerous degress and certifications, have or use Windows phone. If it were superior I would think someone would have tried it. Maybe it needs more time but if they don't change the UI I don't see how it has a chance.

I have a Samsung focus WP7, and I absolutely love it. I feel that I am linked up with my home PC as well as the Skydrive and internet as if I never left my desk. All of my info is at my fingertips and I'm always connected.

i'm sure wp7 is great, but MS was just so late to the game with it. I remember, after the iPhone came out, MS went ahead and released windows mobile 6.1. and then took forever to get wp7 phones out. again, i'm sure wp7 is great, but most people don't care about that. they just care about brand recognition and what's popular, and MS has missed that boat in this case.

You say that you use Windows therefore you can use Windows Phone. Let me correct you. You and ANYONE else can use Windows Phone because it is a very intuitive mobile OS. Windows, as we know it now (XP, Vista, 7) is nothing like Windows Phone. Windows 8 Consumer Preview will give you a better idea of how Windows Phone operates, but WP is still a bit different and EASIER to use than W8CP.

You're coming to a conclusion about an OS based on what the main screen's UI looks like... Whoa, now that's what I call being narrow-minded.

I had a Windows Mobile phone a few years ago and was unimpressed. I have Windows 7 PCs at home and have always had a Microsoft desktop. I just don't want a Microsoft phone, period. I had a Nokia Symbian and was happy with it and now have an Android ICS phone and love it. Why is this a big deal?

I think you should give it a try, at least. I had a Windows Mobile phone when I worked in Europe a few years ago...and I agree with you: it was atrocious compared to the iPhone. However, when I was due to upgrade my phone last year, I ended up ditching the iPhone to give WP7 a try...and, frankly, its astonishingly good. I'm now on my second WP7 device -- a Samsung Focus S with that fantastic Super Amoled screen -- and all the iPhone fanboys and fangirls in the family can't wait till their upgrade comes along...and they've already chosen the Lumia and whatever the equivalent will be in the Samsung Focus line (they really like the screen).

Not knocking Android, especially with ICS...but don't make the mistake of thinking WP7 is a warmed over version of the crappy old Windows Mobile or a copy of iOS; it's entirely different...and it works very well. Yeah, there's not the same amount of apps YET...but its growing exponentially and I have everything I want from Skype to Evernote. The Skydrive is especially cool.

Just saying...

...that akward moment...

...when this article tells us that no one likes to buy WP7 phones, but on reality, Lumia 900 is always out of stock at AT&T...

...peace men...

The author is right in that WP phones are not at all selling. WP has just 1.9% market share last quarter. In this quarter, it may rise to 2% because Nokia is giving away its Lumia 900 phones for FREE. But, this won't last long. Hence, the WP market share will come down again.
