Hello.
I have both desktop and laptop and I do an equal amount of work on both. I'm afraid I've duplicated many files by working on the laptop while I have the same file on the desktop.
They are both running Windows XP.
What I want to do is to backup the laptop files onto the desktop (and vice versa) so I end up with the latest version of these files on both machines so that I can use either machine and always be working on the latest version of the file. What I don't (or can't) do is remember all of the files that I've done this to, so I'm thinking that there might be a program out there (or maybe even a utility in Windows)that can help me.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Windy One

You might want to look into dropbox - create an account, install it on both PCs, and the dropbox folder will be sync'd to the dropbox servers, and to all the PCs you have the program installed on. You get 2GB storage from it, though if you refer someone to it both you and the other person get an extra 500MB space. (if you sign up, use my referral link http://db.tt/G8ELwEIee so you'll get an extra 500MB space to start with. I've already maxed out my referral space and thus won't gain anything from it, so if anyone else wants to post their link, you may as well use it instead.)

Good idea and there may be others with even more storage that could be accessed by both computers. I haven't looked though.

NAS
have you considered only storing the fileset in one location accessible by both machines?
You'll be happiest with ZFS
