If you have Later model Dlink or Cisco/Linksys router you can set them to extend the network, the verbage varies between the manufacturers but its usually something like Gateway/node under a heading of something like "Operation mode"

You can also turn an old router in to a "newer" more robust router that can act as a repeater with third party firmware such as Tomato or one of the WRT's. I did mine for 20 bucks!

I just recently added a Home Plug connection and I was surprised at how well it worked. I switched to Dish whole home DVR and bought their Sling adapter for a one time $30 fee... pretty much dirt cheap, I thought. Anyway, it didn't come with a wireless adapter, but instead plugs into the Dish unit and the nearest outlet. At the other end of the house the 2nd unit attaches to the router via Cat5 and also plugs into an outlet. The throughput is good enough to be able to watch TV, either live or off of the DVR, on my iPad at work (shhhhh )
