Mageia hasn't impressed me so far, if comparing the latest mandriva vs the latest official Mageia, mandriva still is my choice, but at the same time, Mageia is such a young distribution, they are releasing they're second stable, so what they have accomplished in so little time is pretty impressive.
I hope we will see many more releases and that the team feels motivated to continue theyre work.

Mageia has run flawlessly on my 5yr desk top. Mandrive, Ubuntu and Mint not so well. Not sure if I'll upgrade though, I tried Ubuntu 12.4 in a 6yr old HP laptop and had a kernel panic. Not sure if these newer kernels are suitable for the older computers.

Holy smokes! 3.4GB download? That's just too much to try. I'd rather choose my own DE and windows manager, browser and email client, rather than have +2GB of software I'd use.

So, just download the LiveCD, you can choose gnome or KDE version of the livecd.
