Hi Guys,

I have an older Western Digital 1TB External USB HDD. I had a fair amount of data on it. One day I booted up and Windows 7 tells me that it would like to scan the drive because it thinks there is a problem with it. So I do it and it says that it corrected the problem, but now half of the data is gone!?!?! But when you look at the drive the space is still the same. That is to say, that even though the files are not showing, the size of the drive has not changed.

I've used some 10 different file recovery/scanning programs and none of them find the data that I am looking for. Some of them do pull out files that were deleted, but none of the ones that I want and some of them dont even work. The ones that do are not what they say they are. So say if I pull one thats labeled as Car Video, it plays a DVD movie that I was working on instead and vice versa.

I really need to try and get the data back, any tips on what to do or specialized software to use would be great. I cannot replace the data so I'm open to purchasing high end software. Hopefully I can do this on my own, but if not, any suggestion on really good data recovery companies is also welcome.

Thanks guys. Have a nice day.

Hi, Vodmare:

Two questions for you:

1) Do you have these files stored anywhere else?

2) Could you tell us what file recovery programs you've already used, so we don't recommend something you know doesn't work?
