Seems like HBO and Showtime are squandering viewers trying to get an outdated business model to work again.

I download GOT. But I also buy the dvd when it comes out. It is just more convenient to click on one single file and play it, skip through it easy ect...I don't have television. And I really don't want to watch ads online, it kills the mood of watching the series. Stop me from downloading it and you WILL lose a sale when the dvds come out. I am not the only one.

Cable networks would be wise to allow pay per view downloads the day after it airs. Also, they need to release the DVD as soon as the final episode airs.

People use pirate because they don't have to wait a year to watch it.

I'll bet a huge portion of those downloads came from within the US and they are in for some big changes come July-

Years ago, HBO and Shotime didnt really have shows this popular. Actually, never that I can remember. Oh "Sex In The City" lol.

Shotime really raked in the money and the viewers with Weeds, Dexter, Californication, The Tudors, The Borgias, The Big C, Shameless. I mean just about ALL of there shows are HITS! HBO only has True Blood and now Game of Thrones.

This is a perfect example of our basic cable tv has gone to crap. Hollywood is NOT putting the effort into shows for basic cable. One of the reasons is all the reality tv shows witch is trash. So when they used to spend money on basic cable tv shows, it was before reality tv took over. Now they make more money with these shows on HBO and Shotime.

Honestly, I cant afford Showtime or HBO at $16 a month, nobody can!
So every 6 months, I go to my cable company office and I tell them the truth.. I love my Shotime but I honestly cant afford it. They are nice enough to give me a price break at $10 a month for 6 months. So thats pretty cool I think. I mean they are kicking up the price anyway so not really a loss to them.

Just stop and look at where the money is at in cable tv. Reality TV shows run amuck on basic, Shotime is rolling in the doe on premium. They know what the hell they are doing. lol If they DROP the price of the premium channels, they will pull in more customers, I am living proof. I can also watch all the shows via "On Demand" which is free with my cable. As for the rest of the world who want to see these shows, Hollywood chooses to ignore them and at the same time whines about piracy.

Hollywood can fix there own problems, lower prices of premium cable channels, lower the price of cable, make these cable channels and shows available around the world. Worry about making your customers happy instead of being greedy bas***ds.

Actually NO. The US are not the biggest piraters. Mexico has topped the list as #1 for years. lol
Last year I think the U.S. came in 3rd, we have never been top of the list and that is because all movies and cable channels are available to us.
But Hollywood refuses to share all the same movies, shows and cable channels with the rest of the world.
Not sure why because it means more money for them but they refuse to be "worldwide". Ask any soldier to that is abroad right now.

As for July... browser addons, proxies, and programmers are ready. Doesnt take much hunting to find all the tools you need.

This is just one article, I dont think the USA made the Top 10 Countries. Just google it, not hard to find.

I download all of my shows for 2 simple reasons - 1) I want to watch them on my own time like Monday when I break for lunch hour and 2) because I don't want to shell out a ridiculous sum of money for a PVR unit when everything is available for free online and can be played on my television through a computer or gaming console.

Sure I understand that HBO is losing money because people aren't subscribing, but the modern viewer doesn't want to be forced to watch things at a pre-determined and set time when they could have the option of watching it on their own time. Besides, how is downloading a show that has already aired any different than what we used to do back in the 80's and 90's - have a friend tape the show on their VCR and lend it to us to watch

Technically, HBO & Showtime would make a lot of money, if they'd license their shows in a timely manner for DVD sales and video streaming.

It was downright clever of the makers of 'Robot Chicken' to sell the series on DVD, AT THE SAME TIME as they were airing it. They know their impatient audience.

The real formula should be to pop it out one episode at a time, one or two weeks behind, to NetFlix, Blockbuster, Amazon, Hulu, etc., and they would easily multiply their audience.

Or do like they do now, which is wait a year or longer, and everyone will have seen it 'elsewhere', in ways that don't generate any revenue for them.

When given the choice between watching it on Monday night with half an hour of adverts at a set time or watching it a few hours after it's been on in America at my leisure with no adverts (and being able to re-watch it at any time), which do you think wins every time?

Just doing simultaneous worldwide broadcast would reduce piracy massively in my opinion.

people are cheap. if hbo was available for a nickle , people would still use bit torrents. dont bitch when your show goes away because you would not support it.
