I am getting told I have insufficient hard drive to perform maintenance back ups. I have a compaq Laptop bought at Christmas. I mainly use it to play the net game evony. My anti virus is panda which when I do a full scan says theirs been problems & its fixed them even though it is supposed to scan for these automatically. I am growing concerned that I need to do something to prevent damage to the laptop.

We need vitals on the lappy in question. Also, backing up to the same HDD as the OS is on... is not a good idea.

'Backup' should mean to some external device, like USB hard drive or Network Attached Storage (NAS).
It has nothing to do with 'Antivirus'.
It is copying your work and photos and music and media purchases and whatever else to some other device, so if your computer gets run over by a truck, or stolen, or HCF (halt, catch fire) or your cat stretches out and pushes the computer off the desk and the drive crashes, you still have copies of all of your files.
And if you get that message again, pull up a web browser and type it into google, word for word. That's all any of us will do if you could tell us the explicit message.
