What I want to know is who's going to start releasing the first touchscreen laptops & hybrids? Will we get any this summer, or will we have to wait until the fall?

I agree. Now that we're see fast, thin, light laptops with long battery life, the time is right for touchscreen laptops, slates, convertibles, etc. to finally succeed. Microsoft appears to have the timing right with Windows 8/Metro. I just hope they don't ruin it for everyone without a touchscreen.

I'm not even sure that OEMs should load Windows 8 on new hardware unless it's a touchscreen (or unless the customer wants it). The reality is that Metro was designed for touchscreens, so if W8 is installed on non-touch hardware, we might end up with a Vista-style backlash... which Microsoft doesn't need.

Thanks for the link. Those look really cool... but I want one with Windows, not Android. :)

They've been out for years, and didn't sell all that well, particularly to consumers. But that was because it was using a desktop OS with touch as a hacked on afterthought. Yeah, we heard all about how the OS was designed for touch, but it wasn't. This time maybe it will be different with Windows 8. My guess is not until Fall, but they will announce in mid Summer.
