What is the fastest Android phone? I love my Epic 4G Galaxy S (1st gen), but it's a couple of years old now.

What phone has fastest OS response? I'm not interested in fastest radio, wifi or data speed. I mean when you push a button or touch the screen, what is the phone with the fastest response?

Ms. Mies' article (http://www.pcworld.c...oid_phones.html) is a few months old, now.

Thank you,

Sam

With phones, I feel the best thing to do is to go to a store and physically play with some of the phones they have. The problem is that responsiveness is a bit opinionated. Benchmarks and specs don't tell the whole story (and different phones have different skins, preinstalled software, etc). I'm thinking about getting a Galaxy Nexus myself. (perfect chance to dump Verizon, while I'm at it) The Samsung Galaxy S II was pretty popular, and the S III will be available in several months if you're willing to wait.

I have owned a couple HTC phones now, and I will say that when there isn't any crapware on them, they are pretty darned snappy. That said - ANY phone without crapware will be quick. I have a custom ICS rom on my Droid Incredible 2, and it runs exactly as a mobile phone should run. Anything I ask of it, it does without question.

All that out of the way, these days look for a dual core phone, about 1.2Ghz or so, with 1GB ram, and 8GB or more internal storage. Then just pick out other features you want. After that, check online to see how involved the "rooting" process is. As long as it is something you can live with, pick it up, root it, and find a custom rom that is nothing more than the STOCK rom stripped of the bloatware. That way you know it will work, and be FAST.

Benchmarks would point to the S4 phones, like the Galaxy SIII or the HTC One X/S. Although I hear the Galaxy Nexus with Jelly Bean runs a lot smoother, and that's only $350 outright.

In my opinion, Samsung Galaxy S4 is the fastest android phone that you can buy. It is very user friendly and easy to use. With Group Play you can share music very easily by converting multiple phones into speakers. You can even play games in sharing with your friends without using any wireless access point or cellular signal in real time. You can easily scroll through the phone without touching the screen manually simply by using your eyes movements. Pauses the video or whatever application running on the screen, the moment you remove your eyes from the screen. Samsung Galaxy S4 has 13 megapixels autofocus rear camera with LED flash support and Zero shutter lag that helps you in taking numerous shots in a single moment without any lag-time.

Interestingly, my Galaxy Nexus gets 16mbps down/5.9mbps up over wifi, while I get 27.6down/5.6mbps up on my desktop. The upload speeds are within margin of error, but what's with the download speeds being slower? (the connection's rated for 25/5 - comcast) My laptop gets the full speed over wifi as I recall.

I have seen my Galaxy S4 at utmost performance and runs flawlessly. I already used HTC one and Galaxy S3 but this time S4 is unbeatable. :)
