Or,

A - You Can Use The Bookmarks TabBar, For The Most Recognizable Favicons, And,

B - Use Extension SITELAUNCHER, A Bookmarks Manager With A Lot More Real Estate, For The Rest.

I Use Both.

I've been doing this since the beginning.

Another good tip is to add folders to the bookmarks bar with short names for the folders. Then, you can have a nice mixture of just favicons... as well as some folder-based menus where the bookmarks within (which should be kept to a minimum) can have their full descriptions.
