I think that Apple practices a disciplined product development arc that is addresses all aspects- User Interface, Industrial Design, quality of hardware and software, identifying and meeting user needs and future desires, and solid technology to pull it all together.

I also think that many manufacturers just insert new technology and features without taking a holistic approach. Those devices, in my opinion, do not make Apple products obsolete by any stretch of the imagination. Others will disagree.

I am not aware that Apple has claimed that Siri is AI. If you have an example of Apple doing so I would appreciate seeing it. Apple is trying to deliver what I call "the illusion of true second person presence" which for some of us has been the holy grail for User Interfaces since the 80s. Technology is finally catching up to some of those dreams. Siri is an early step and hopefully Google's new search paradigm will move us farther along the path as well.

Another question is this, at what point does it become AI? When it becomes self aware? Or, when it is able to anticipate a problem and find solutions while at the same time anticipating the "butterfly effect" of those solutions.

These are exciting times.

Just patent the way people file class action lawsuits. If anyone sues, counter-sue plaintiff for patent infringement. Problem solved.

I love the subset of Siri that is on my new iPad. I do almost all of my email processing (And blog commenting) now via dictation. It is not 100% perfect yet, but it is now good enough to be more efficient than a standard keyboard.

We have 3 iPhone 4s units in the family, we all get along just fine with SIRI. It's not 100%, but I never had the illusion that it would be. It also gets my questions about 80-90% of the time, what's not to like? If these people aren't happy with SIRI, return it, sit down and shut up, and then go buy your Droid with it's open virus applications and see how happy you get with that.

Oh ya, you forgot to mention the most succesful and valuable company in America, and while you're at it, the highest customer satisfaction ratings in the world. Guess those slipped your mind...
