Up until recently i've been using my laptop with an external monitor so that i can have two screens, but now suddenly the monitor doesn't receive a signal from my laptop when connected. The monitor is detected by my laptop, because when i go to the 'Screen Resolution' page there are two monitors. However if i try to extend the display, nothing happens on the external monitor. I also noticed that i can't adjust the resolution or orientation of the external monitor.
I've tried using the monitor with another laptop and it works fine. I've also tried using a different monitor with my laptop and the same thing happens, so it must be an issue with the laptop. Please help!
Thanks.

On a Windows 7 PC if you press the Windows flag key + P it will rotate though the various display possibilities. Have you tried that? You might have clicked that key combination accidentally at one time.

A friend had a nice 19 inch LCD display that he was convinced had died. It had a red color to everything and unlike the CRT monitors, there was no way to adjust it. After I dug it out of his trash, I looked at the VGA connector and found a pin folded over and shorting to another pin. Thinking the worst, I located another connector to replace the old one. Before getting the soldering iron out, I tried to straighten the pin. Success, but I'm sure it won't stand up to being connected and disconnected too many times before the pin breaks off altogether. I inserted the connector to the server unit I have and it wotked fine, so it remains connected. This is not a common problem for most but those who connect and disconnect their displays, it is not that uncommon and care should be taken to prevent these types of faults.
