It's all fine and good to have Chrome as a popular browser, but Google has got to do a better job of QA. The last 3 versions have been very buggy.

does this factor in that chrome will download pages ahead of time for links they believe a user may click in a webpage even if they don't?

I've heard of "margin of error" before, but... the discrepancy between StatCounter's numbers & NetMarketShare's numbers are quite vast. One has Chrome 33, IE 32. And the other has IE 54, Chrome 19. That's quite a difference.

Both cannot be right. One of them is WAY off.

They are measuring different things. NetMarket tracks visitors and StatCounter tracks visits. If I visit a site ten times with chrome and once with I.E. NetMarket will report equal marketshare. StatCounter will report 90% market share for chrome. Also NetMarket weights its data based on CIA data on internet users. This is heaviest in China, so NetMarket share is heavy with data from China.

Remember too that Chrome is a cross platform system. IE dropped Mac support several years ago. Firefox has been a "Mac Only" mindset, even though it does go cross platform. I've been using Chrome for over a year and have no complaints, but I'm not a geek either, just a grey haired user~

Well, it will be NICE to have IE just among the pack, so developers don't have to WASTE so much time and money making everything work around Microsoft's bugs and incompatibilities (things that work for EVERY browser, EXCEPT IE).

Doesn't work on IE? Well, it works find on Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari and various Linux browsers. Just slap up an 'Upgrade to a browser that doesn't suck' page if an incompatible IE user visits, with a list of compatible web browser download links.

Of course, Microsoft got a HUGE boost up a few months back, when NetMarketShare separated 'mobile/tablet' from 'Desktop' browsers.

So Microsoft got to be back in the driver's seat, since the whole desktop market is their own personal b*tch.

They were already below the 50% mark LAST YEAR, on NetMarketShare.

In other words, Microsoft got a leg up because NetMarketShare cooked the books in their favor. Hundreds of millions of tablets and phones NOT running IE puts them WAY, WAY, WAY down.

Read the note they have on the page about pre-rendering filtration.

I can fully appreciate, and use, Chrome, but there's more than one choice.

Comodo Dragon,Sleipnir, and SRWare Iron need more coverage.

I have to say both of them are good at some points, that's why I can choose one over one.

All browsers today have some really lousy bugs to them. IE9 is really bad, Chrome still has rendering issues and Firefox is just Firefox. Its been buggy since 3.6. Speeding up releases has not been good for Firefox. In my opinion I would use IE8 if you have to use a IE browser and Chrome for everyone else.

That's only because most government/state computers only use IE. And people who don't realize the benefits of using another browser never change. I only use IE at work because I have to. At home its Chrome and Fire Fox.

Most work and gov/state computer use IE so they have the advantage right there. And most non-tech savvy people don't know any better. If it wasn't for work I would never use IE.

eMail attachements in Chrome are not opened directly, they have to be saved to the computer and then opened (viewed). After viewing you have to delete the file from the computer in order to avoid garbage buildup. To much hassle.

See Mozilla? Don't bother making your browser any faster and keep the entire thing single-threaded while the competition move on, and you'll get left behind. That is the sole reason I switched to Chrome.

Anyway, I wonder how many people are forced to use IE at work, and how many use Chrome (or IE, for that matter) because it was automatically installed on their PC and they don't know any better.
