"Competition between IE, Firefox, Chrome, and others is alive and well, and that's really the most important thing."

Not if you have to design pages that will look good in each version of each browser.

This is also true as new standards are imperfectly implemented by each vendor.

There was a nice period of time where the browser wars weren't raging...I believe I had hair back then.

I was using Chrome up until they 'increased their safety' procedures. Now EACH time I go to ustillize Chrome I must reset all of the (formerly saved) settings on my home pages and login to EACH of my home page sites every time I visit. I can no longer save my preferences on wunderground and now find the site overall to be less helpful than IE9 presents. Therefore, I have returned to use of IE9 - if it is indeed slower than Chrome it has more than made up for its lack of speed by not requiring me to re-enter saved data and passwords several times a day.

Back in the pre-Internet Explorer days, when Netscape Navigator was pretty much the only thing people used? ;D

As IE is embedded and Chrome is downloaded in Google bundles,Firefox's usage is remarkable and testament to being athe user's first choice
