Waldo,I Finally got my combo router+modem from comcast to work good.It has a range of ~370-400 feet, depending on whats between me and my router.I Have it on 11 band or whatever its called,so no one else is

.I Am actually seeing d/l speeds of 16 Mb/s with the laptop near it.The modem is rarely hot,and I have 10-15 devices on at any given time(TV,4 laptops,3 desktops,2 ipods, couple of tablets, and a home server.)
I am glad for you. In fact, I am happy for everyone who can keep them running that way. I will say that I don't have that kind of luck. When I start stressing my gear, consumer gear can't cut the mustard. When I start rocking VPN through my router, I expect this Netgear Prosafe to do things consumer products can only dream of. Knowing, of course, that this router can handle 20Mb/sec maintained VPN 3DES with SSL should I really need it to... while the WRT54G can only maintain 500Kb/sec. There is a vast difference in design and engineering. There always has been, and always will be.
I make absolutely no attempt to hide the fact that this is expensive. I also will not hide the fact that it is likely overkill for most users. However, you don't get any better gear.
I'm to lazy to buy a DOCSIS 3 Modem,so I'm just leasing one from Comcast. For laughs,I turned on 6 lappys,4 desktops,3 ipods,4 tablets,a home server,4 phones, and it STILL Didnt lag.And its still not very warm. And its under the TV,With no air vent near it.
