Diablo 3 would still probably have been the fastest selling PC game without the option to download and buy the game early. The reality is that every other click and kill hack n slash game out there is a diablo rip off. Look at games like Untold Legends, Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest. Blizzard has and always will do it better than anyone else. As for people still complaining about the first week having server issues, this game, like any other blizzard game will be played years after it's graphics are considered obsolete due to superior gameplay and hopefully some decent expansions.

One has only to look at the continued play on Diablo II servers to understand that, after 12 years, there were still large numbers of fans for the franchise. The games ease of use, when compared to many other roll-playing games, remains pretty much the same in the new incarnation.
There have been some who have complained the new Diablo "looks" and "feels" too much like World of Warcraft and have been turned off because of that. However, it remains there are more than enough people who enjoyed the graphic updates and changes in the engine, that D3 will probably enjoy the same decade-long success as D2.

You can tell that many portions of the game engine were "borrowed" from WoW (like the log in screen). However, the actual game is very much Diablo. I have had a blast playing it.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" -- Isaac Asimov
