Opera + Facebook = ? LOVE Opera as a stand-alone browser but I shudder to think what the children of a Facebook+Opera night in the sack will be like.

So is Opera looking for relevance or is Facebook hoping to maintain relevance?

If I were running Facebook I'd not bother with owning my own broser. What I'd rather have is an that is facebook on the desktop, much the way we have facebook on the iPad.

my experience with Opera, both mini (android and iphone) and on desktop, has been pretty disappointing. That's not to say it's bad, but it feels like 10 years old.

If we are to believe the media, the desktop is dead. No one in their right mind develops a "Desktop" app anymore. HTML5 web app that can mimic a desktop app.

Unfortunately, while I think tablets (have) to go this route, I think the desktop PC (Laptop / desktop pc or mac) will be around for quite some time... There are still tons of people that go out specifically to get the most powerful desktop or laptop they can afford, battery life be damned. They know it will never run on the battery anyway. I'd argue there are just as many of those people today as there were 10 years ago. Except now those people ALSO want a tablet for their quick fix while at Starbucks or on the airplane. The issue the industry is facing is that computers last longer today (that is, don't become obsolete) than they did 10 years ago. So the "upgrade" market has slowed down giving a false sense that the PC is dead.

I bought one of those UltraSlim Logitech Keyboard Cases for the iPad 3. I'm tying this reply on the iPad with that Keyboard. Makes m iPad look like a small laptop. More and more I'm getting away from the laptop and just using the iPad. I have some fitness devices that want to connect to the Mac via USB to sync my data. But even that is going away. I just picked up a Nike+ Fuelband. It not onl syncs to a PC/Mac via USB, it also syncs to an iPhone via Bluetooth. So I can sync the device with the iPhone and the iPhone then talks to the Nike+ websit and uploads my data.

FB might not be solvent by the time they get around to trying to buy Opera.. and that would save Opera

Oh great... If this happens, I won't even consider using Opera.

Facebook already makes most of its money on targeted advertising based on what their users do, who know's what they'd do if they got access to your desktop to see your browsing habits.
