It's been real busy the last 2 days but I squeezed in my upgrade.
Haven't put it to the test yet but as far as booting and functioning, I am satisfied.

I ended up useing my old artic 5. Looked good so hopefully it will do its job.
If not, the zalman cooler mount I bought was a pleasure to work with and holds the HS/F better than the center strap used for AMD.
The paste could be replaced with relitive ease.
My OCZ black edition RAM defaulted to 1066 7-7-7 at 1.5 volts.
Advertised as 1600 8-8-8 1.65 volts.

Haven't tweeked anything yet.
This SSD works well with the Ivy bridge 3570.
Everything is instant so far.
Will need to push it and check temps.
Bios reported idle 29C though my side panels are off.

Here are some pics.
Any advice or suggestions plz throw them my way.

This may be dumb but I want to confirm that auto defrag is off.
I unchecked the schedule so is it truly off?
SSDs are not to be on a scheduled derag.

That machine looks pretty sweet. Can you run 3dmark Vantage and post the results?
I think Windows 7 automatically disables defragmentation for SSDs. (By the way, is your BIOS set to AHCI? You need that for the TRIM commands to be passed to the operating system.)

Thanks Brian.

I didn't check bios but the manual said ACHI is default.

I'll run it.

Just ran Fan expert and it determind I didn't need my top fans running.
Thats fine.
Holding 33C.

We'll see what impact 3d has on temps.

Good to know - on mine for some reason it was set to IDE mode by default. You might want to manually change the ram timings in the bios btw. (I thought IB officially supported 1600MHz ram though, so it's a bit odd that it defaulted to 1066MHz...) If you torture the CPU with prime95 or something similar (I think parts of 3dmark vantage tax the CPU a lot), what are the temps?

Hi Rommel,
Terrific looking build, you sure know how to make them look good

You're correct about the SSD and auto defrag, Windows 7 turns it off automatically when it sees an SSD.

Brian,

Something strange happened during registering at 3D.

If this link fails, I have the snips I can upload.
http://3dmark.com/3dmv/4107507

And you are right about the 1600.
Surprised it didn't default there.
This RAM is a temp solution.
I'll use it till I find more appropriate RAM at a cheap price though there have been temping deals.
A 3.0 VC is in the distant future.

@ compnovo.

Thanks.

Looking forward to pushing this some.
Much new tecnology to learn between the SSD, CPU and mobo.

I love using my mouse in BIOS, thats a nice improvement.

The link does work but it takes a moment for the results to show.

Graphics: 9048
Still using the 5770 OCed version from HIS.

CPU: 19557

Just ran ATTO.
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/Irwin_/th_atto1st.png

Wanted to download an IOPS bench but didn't see my cpu.
Do you have a link compnovo for a good IOPS bench?

Brian, I ran auto tune but not to max results and reran 3D.
http://3dmark.com/3dmv/4108132

This result showed the cpu at 22634 though the cpu clock said 3392.
The first run of 3D showed a clock of 3410.
?

I can't believe these temps.
CPU threshold is 70C by default.
No bells and whistles alerted me to 82C.

Hey Rommel, Yeah that MOBO should default to ACHI . As for the Defrag, you have it turned off. The one thing I haven't figured out is why your memory is defaulting to 1066 Mhz. It should be running at 1600 Mhz. I have the Z68 version of that MOBO and I put 1600 Mhz in there and that is what it is running at. Looks good. Nice job. :D

Very nice looking machine, the PSU strap is interesting, does it actually do anything, or is it just there for looks?

As always, great job with the cable routing.

My PC sucks in comparison: http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3924244 (note: that was with a little overclocking) Hopefully you can upgrade the GPU soon, so that you can really enjoy the new rig. :D

Ah, You'll get there. Heck, with the numbers you have now, you aren't far off. Won't take much. I have a moderate OC at 4.4 Ghz, the GTX 560Ti Video Card, and 8 Gb of Ram running at 1600 Mhz. As I said, you aren't far off. Good job on the build. You are going to be very happy with that thing.

I ran a 3D test with my Asus probe monitoring.
When the temps hit 70C rather quickly, they dropped to 65C and then bounced around there.
Being I set my fans to full speed I am thinking the drop in temp was the cpu throttling back?

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/Irwin_/th_allfansmax3Dbench.png

Or perhaps it was the load from the test?

Anyway, I starting to think that the old artic 5 may not be good enough or my zalman.

At the stock speed I am very happy with all the upgrades.
Later I'll post a video of a cold boot.
In less than a minute we're in windows.

Less than 5 seconds it shuts down.
SSDs are cool in many ways.

What is the Zalman rated for (TDP)? My 1st gen i5 750 hits 50C under load (the cores, that is) and idles at 30C, using my Coolermaster TX3 (under load it runs at 1500RPM btw, but it's rated for 2500). I doubt the CPU would throttle at 70C though (I was thinking more along the lines of 80).

As quickly as you hit 70, and as quickly as it dropped, yes I think you are right, the zalman isn't keeping up. As long as you have enough thermal paste, and good contact, then all should be golden. That is too bad though, as it looked really cool that way.

I checked the paste out before applying and it was quite tacky from age.
Perhaps it affected the application.

Currently the cooler is running full out so its not a response issue.

I will try an application with new paste in the near future.
It shouldn't be much of a hassle redoing it in the roomy tower and how the cooler is attached.
THX WJ for the input.
