As quickly as you hit 70, and as quickly as it dropped, yes I think you are right, the zalman isn't keeping up. As long as you have enough thermal paste, and good contact, then all should be golden. That is too bad though, as it looked really cool that way.

I have some new A5S on the way.

Hopefully a fresh application with something other than "some yrs old" will make a difference.

Hey Rommel, I didn't know that stuff had a shelf life. I've got a big 12 gram tube of AS5 sitting on the shelf and I don't see any " Expiration " date on it. I do know that it will seperate over time though.

Yeah, just trying to leave no stones unturned.

At their website they gave suggestions on storing it.
Some of the info included storing it tip downwards.
In the fridge is a good storing enviroment as well.

The artic I used was purchased 12-2009.
Felt tacky and thick. I'll compare its texture to the new supply.
And no, it is not at finger spread application.

For now I uninstalled asus probe 2 to make sure I don't have a mistake in settings there as I am in the learning curve process.
The network prioriety was set at browser but wouldn't accept gaming?
My hotmail was so freaking slow.
After uninstalling asus probe it is now popping.
So are the product pics at newegg.

I am enjoying this upgrade but will be learning stuff for awhile.

When I have this heat under control I'll need to confirm some OCing intel stuff.
When probe was installed it showed 16 something cpu speed.
Flip to 41 but stayed mostly at 16+.
Tried disabling some settings in bios to let it run but I am not finding the right one.
Starting to feel like a noob. :D or

I only did a finger spread thing once and had a latex thing on my finger.

I haven't been able to find the Network Priority thing as I was going to check to see what I was set at. I think I have all the stuff running on this MOBO ( P8Z68-VPro ) except for Marvell. May do away with the Blue tooth stuff though. Incidently, my Birthday is coming up in June, so got myself a Birthday present: http://www.tigerdire...5397&CatId=7387

Wait, is that the multiplier? (the base clock is 100MHz on the SB and I think IB chips) It's perfectly normal for it to lower itself when the machine's idle - mine runs at 1.2GHz while idle (133x9) and 2.66GHz (133x20) under load, for instance. (the lynnfields used a base clock of 133MHz, not 100)

Hi Brian.

My multiplier is 16
BS is 100
HZ 16+
According to CPUZ.

I have been searching bios to disable anything that says when enabled it saves power by reducing speed/performance.
With that disabled the above numbers remain the same.

Would like to run this at stock speed (3.4) without throttling back then apply OCs and see what the temps do.
And see what score 3D shows.
What am I missing to lock my core speed?
Still getting used to this new bios.

I must say though that this pc is so responsive.
Haven't gamed beyond the simple game Halo online to really push it that way but no BSODs or any other weird errors.
Completely stable and glitch free at the moment.

From a cold boot I'm online in 50 seconds.

PC shuts down within 5 seconds all the time.

You should be looking for something call Intel SpeedStep. If you cannot find it, google up ThrottleStop, it is a Windows based tool that controls the multiplier base/turbo, and works extremely well.

@Rommel Why would you want to disable Speedstep? It saves energy, and if you actually need more power it will turn up the multiplier almost instantly. Besides, the CPU doesn't really seem to bottleneck much stuff nowadays anyway. For instance, most of the time, on my desktop, the only bottleneck I can see is the hard drive - things that are cached and stuff open almost instantly, the system is very responsive, etc. On my laptop, I think the CPU actually is a bottleneck at times (though it's just as powerful as a Pentium 4 I think - my desktop CPU is about 5X faster than my laptop one).

For now I'd like to lock my values and note them and see temp and performance results.

With the IB heat issue I feel this will give me a more accurate picture of things.
I don't plan to torture this thing but would like to better learn my boundaries.
