I'm slightly confused here. Trying to make a backup of my current partition with Linux Mint on ex3fs and it tells me that I have to have a file to save the image to: Image file to create, use. It won't let me just save to a directory. it requires some file. So I can't just save the image in my "home/documents" directory because there's no file to save it to. The main window is as follows:
Partition to save/restore
select path /root_________________
and then there's a bunch of different things listed
.xinitrc
xserver.cfg
.zcomp and the list go on forever
If i knew it was going to be this confusing I would've just used True Image.

Well, for one thing, you can't backup a partition onto the same partition. Mounting external storage is best for this.
Mint is similar to Ubuntu, so this should help.

Or try Clonezilla. It should be a little easier. Just burn a 'live' CD of it, since if you really need the restore, your computer probably isn't booting.
