iPhone is still for the coolness factor. Almost all the socialites own an iPhone. They wouldn't touch another kinda phone.
Then you Android and Windows Phone competing for the same group of people. Those who want apps and games but don't wanna spend a lot of money for a phone.
Facebook I'm sure is trying to be in the middle but the fact is if you buy a Facebook phone it's pretty much telling everyone you are a social outcast who lives their life online.
Owning a Facebook phone over iPhone would be like saying you chose a Segway over a car. Or you'd rather go to a Star Wars convention than a party.

If what facebook is looking for is to create a platform on which they are not tied to other companies rules then creating their own platform is probably a good idea (you make your own rules) but they are loosing the objective for which a mobile device is created; it is supposed to bring consumers real benefits to them, people is not going to carry two mobile devices (cell phone and facebook phone ) to make their calls and other stuff and also carry a facebook phone just to do their posts, or check on friends statuses...
A device that is not multifunctional, nowadays is useless, and it is even primitive.

What about Facebook for Android? Isnt that a Facebook phone right there?
Maybe they will invent the email , music, and video phone too?
Do they even know what a smartphone is and how it works?
And was there MySpace that has become so big and profitable?

What bothers me is when I tried to check facebook Financial status there are no Assets but 15 billion dollars
invested by Investors but no tangibles.
There is also a Lawsuit against Facebook now in litigation. It is no wonder that facebook Stock offer has no takers.

I think what FB is trying to do is have their own ad platform. I'm not positive, but I think you have to use iAd on iOS and what ever Google's equivalent to that on Android. Ads and selling people's information are the only ways I know of for how FB makes money. Who knows, maybe they will force you to opt-in to letting FB have access to your phone logs, chat sessions, address book, etc.
