"Verizon hopes to cover every household with its new tiers" - LMAO.
Comcast will shoot their techs on the spot if they see them in my area.

My "high speed" is still measured in Kbps. Until there's the equalivant of rural electrification for those of barely in the country, we will never see true high speed.

before they DOUBLE their speeds they need to honor the spirit of their contracts and do something about their appalling LACK of meeting the published speeds of the current stuff!!!! I have been paying for a FIOS 50/50 access which, CONSISTANTLY, times out as in the neighborhood of .02/20(or is that vise-versa?) etc!!!!!!!!!! and before you go all twittery on that--it is ENTIRELY legal for them to do so! the contract states "up to" the speed level you are at...this, in REALITY, means that if they get aANYTHING their lines it qualifies for the contract!!!!! hell of a racket they've had going! a legal liscnese to 'steal' from everyone!
the best I'll say FOR FIOS is that their "UP" time is sensational...had maybe 1-2 brief periods of 'down' in the 2 yrs prev!!!!

Too bad FiOS is still after years not available in my area.
read my comment before you go and get all quivery on it! its good, no mistake, BUT it aint as advertized!!!
if I had it to do again I'd give their competitors a shake(just to tryout the/any differences)
I had a biz for which I had a dsl line[and before that I worked where they had T1 lines] and I did not 'feel' any differences in the speeds(perhaps due to that aggrevating NON-speed issue????) lol

Should we expect this doubling of our download bandwidth to not incur any additional monthly charges?

Over $200/month? Ridiculous.... Google Fiber is expected to offer speeds of 1GB/s for $70/month. What is Verizon thinking?....oh wait... get customers locked into an over-priced 2-year contract before the words out on Google Fiber....Muahhh hahaha...

I have found that to not be the case actually. When I called with concerns over my lack of bandwidth, Verizon busted their rears trying to fix it. Turned out to be a problem with MY SWITCH. After replacing it, I consistently got 42Mbit on my 35Mbit service.
I would love to be back in a Verizon Fios service area.

The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" -- Isaac Asimov
