It may work great on windows tablets and phones - but I'm not buying either - and i'll be sticking with 7 on my desk and laptops - If I wanted a Mac - I'd buy a Mac not a lame version of Mac. If/when MS stops supporting everything toher than 8 - I guess it's MAC here I come!

The only thing I am not happy with is the removal of the DVD Maker program. I would be more upset at that then some silly start menu.
I have also located all the Run, regedit, and even the Admin Run items, there all still there.and that new search is pretty intuitive.
I think what people hate the most is "Change". I have use Linux as well. Both have strengths, both have weaknesses, but Linux weaknesses are getting fewer and fewer.

It's very stupid of MS not to give users the option to disable metro.
It's *VERY* jarring to be taken from the desktop, where I'm working in photoshop, to a completely different UI.
I'm hoping Win8 fails so that MS decides to let us choose which UI we want. If it doesn't, I'll probably move to linux.

Believe it or not, a lot of people still to - maybe not right after logging on, but there are still times to use it when you need that program that isn't used often to either have a desktop icon or pinned to the task bar.

And this estimate is based on... what? The ever popular "80% of all statistics are made up on-the-spot?"
So no Start Button anymore. How does one quickly get to favorite non-Metro programs, like Photoshop, Quicken, or Family Tree Maker?
Microsoft is being idiotic about this. If they want Metro, offer Metro. But a simple Preference setting to boot to Metro or boot to Desktop should be simple and available.
Win8? No thanks, I'll be sticking with Win7.
That 80% is due to Microsoft, they claim that no one uses the start menu because the data they collected in the "Anonymous User Data Collection". That being said if you know how to use a computer, and use the start menu odds are you probably have that turned off anyways. In other words Microsoft is being dumb.

1:Enter Desktop in the metro.
2:Right click the taskbar
3:toolbars --> New toolbar
4:C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
If you dont like the position of the new start menu unlock the taskbar and drag the taskbar to the left
!!!A quick way to enter system options!!!
Right click the bottom left corner

Start Menu 7,another start menu software, now enables you to boot straight to the desktop. And both of these software's give you both the start button and full Windows 7 or Windows XP start menu.
And Ribbon Disabler which disables the ribbon in Windows Explorer and gives you the Windows 7 style Explorer, also works in Windows 8 RP.
And now there is a software that can enable visual styles in Windows 8 RP. Like UX Style theme patcher can.So you can now patch themes in Windows 8.
So a lot has changed since Windows 8 was first released. Now Windows 8 users can have the start menu and are now more able to run Windows 8 like Windows XP. Just like they can with Windows Vista and Windows 7.Andrea Borman.

To the guy that asked why. Well we can actually hit start, and start typing to run d*** near anything in windows, just like 7, and vista. BUT I STILL MISS the windows xp simple start menu because I could actually type "[start], [p], [p]" and open and run photoshop, just by managing my menus i could start almost any program with three buttons. While similar, the new system required me to retrain my fingers, and just when I am getting used to that on 7, 8 is coming along and dropping the easy menu even more, and forcing a screen to switch over to "commercials" while I search for the program I want.
What if I told you after 20 years of martial arts that you had to quit using all you knew by reflex, and start all over with a new system, say ZUMBA.(yes i know that it isn't even a martial art)
SO in short the new system isn't terrible, but I have to retrain my fingers, and brain, and habits that I started building in doss 6.22, and then in windows 95. And yes I still use the cmd box, when it get's me what I want now (ipconfig), and the start menu is still there, but now it's a hassle, and it closes the screen I'm reading, and most of the metro apps are still garbage.....
BUT MICROSOFT DOESN'T CARE, so yes they will hold a GUN to your martial artist self (from redmond) and say LEARN ZUMBA NOW OR ELSE.
