WTF? Windows8? I've still got about 40% of my computers on XP.

Think I'll be skipping W8.

Still waiting for a download link. My guess is that they'll wait until around 4:30pm (Seattle time). I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow then...

Why don't they just spend an entire article talking about how Metro is a terrible step back in the UI department. IT takes up to much space, needs way to much scrolling, and is used in lots of case to force ads on the user. The biggest problem with Windows 8, not mentioned in this article but pointed out by a Microsoft rep to me, was that it is largely dependent on your Windows Live ID and all the online integration. If you are off-line there is very little functionality available. The device performed very poorly without all the integrated cloud features. Overall it made a decent tablet OS alternative but still not going to compete with Android ICS or iOS. Windows 8 is no way feasible as a desktop OS or a VM OS in my mind.

If you don't need to, why upgrade? The only reason I use Win7 is because my XP machine bit the dust and I could not get a copy of XP.

Security and software compatibility to name a few big ones.

On the contrary, Win 8 on x86 tablets will be a far more powerful tablet operating system than iOS or ICS, mainly because it can also run the billions of legacy Windows apps (should you need them) plus a whole load of other power-user stuff. If anything, it's Windows RT that's the equivalent to iOS or ICS.

Too much scrolling in Metro? Not really. For starters, that's what the semantic zoom is for which allows you to shrink everything into small groups with small icons, with just a single pinch. Or you can search for an app by typing it's name. Or you can view all the apps and use semantic view there as well.

Metro doesn't force ads on the user! Where did you get that from?

Like the Power User feature on the desktop but what is soooo wrong with a simple button instead of a right click!

Small improvements over previous preview but the interface still sucks! On prior version, was able to by-pass it and go to customized desktop >> haven't played with it much yet.

Is there a keyboard shortcut to bring up the Power User list? There should be.

Looks like the unpopular Unity desktop that replaced replaced level-headedness (is that a word? ;) in Ubuntu. Mind, Gnome 3 is almost as bad. Race to the bottom?
