E3 2012: Resident Evil 6 Co-op Preview

Whether RE6 ultimately lives up to its series horror pedigree remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure - Capcom isn’t pulling any punches with co-op. We were shown a behind-closed-doors look at the game’s unique take on multiplayer, which takes a page from the Demon’s Soul school of design by integrating online co-op elements seamlessly into the main campaign. As players progress through one of RE6’s three primary two-person squad storylines, they will periodically encounter four-player co-op missions, wherein two squads are paired together while playing online. It’s an intriguing, original way to add replay value to the campaign. That being said, the online option can be disabled, meaning AI allies join your team instead.

E3 2012: Need For Speed: Most Wanted Hands-On Preview
source:gamingunion.net

The latest Need For Speed title, Most Wanted, combines what amounts to Criterion’s arguably best work - the open-world design of Burnout: Paradise, alongside the cat-and-mouse chases of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit.

Most Wanted truly feels like a mash-up of those two very different racers, and that’s not a criticism. If anything, adding some consequence, in the form of a watchful police presence, to a sandbox playground makes a lot of sense. While driving around the city - picking up races, finding jumps, and breaking through billboards on the fly - cops will actively take notice of your erratic traffic violations. Toss in Criterion’s expertly-designed environments for good measure, and it all comes together into a package that’s shaping up convincingly.

Review: Quantum Conundrum Is An Adventure You Can't Afford to Miss Out On (Xbox 360, Ps3 and PC)

Kim Swift is the main designer behind the game, but she is mostly known for her work on Valve’s Portal series. Many elements from that series are found in Quantum Conundrum. The cartooning nature, the silent protagonist and silent walking steps are in here, but it finds it’s own footing. The four dimensions in the game keep the game fresh and im looking for what lies ahead.

Gran Turismo 5 Goes Interstellar!

Following on from the Tweet detailing GT Academy‘s online participation, Kazunori Yamauchi has also Tweeted figures about GT5′s cumulative online racing to date – a truly staggering 36.4 billion miles in the 577 days since launch!

Numbers of this magnitude are difficult to comprehend without context, so here’s some equivalents:
GT5 players have driven the distance from the Earth to the Sun. And back. 200 times.
Or the distance from the Sun to Neptune. And back. Thirteen times.
In under 2 years GT5 players have driven three times further than Voyager 1 has managed in 35 years.
We’d still take 1,367 years to drive GT5 to our nearest star, Proxima Centauri…

Getting It Right: Valkyria Chronicles
source:destructoid.com

[Getting It Right is a monthly series in which I take a look at the elements that make up a classic game. What were the key ingredients that set it apart and make it hold up to this day? Read on to find out.]

Upon its release in 2008, I felt Valkyria Chronicles would be the closest we’d ever come to having an X-Com sequel. And now, with an honest-to-goodness X-Com on the way, I wish we were getting a full-fledged Valkyria Chronicles sequel for consoles. Though both games are masterpieces in their own right, Valkyria’s world and potential continue to excite me in a way that marines battling space men doesn't.

In every aspect, Valkyria is a game that stands out within its publisher’s catalog, genre, and even medium. What other game blends action and strategy as fluidly as Valkyria? What other game has a female protagonist and antagonist, both of which are non-sexualized, well-realized characters? With a visual look that’s all its own and art direction that breathes much-needed life into the tired World War II setting, Valkyria is a game that will remain as timeless as X-Com. I just think I’d prefer to play another Valkyria is all.
