Iphone To Ipod Touch

hi there! I wanted to know if i buy an older iphone from a friend, maybe 1st generation or 2nd im not sure right now, can i use it like an ipod touch? will i be able to use wifi around my house and download apps? does it need the sim card to work? and if so do i need to do anyting to it once its restored to its original setting? any help would be much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!

Hi, Ninth.

I imagine it would work as an iPod Touch, but I'm not certain.

Since you're buying it from a friend, ask if you can try it out for a day or two.

Once an iPhone has been activated for the first time, I think it can be used without the SIM card. Just beware that the older iPhones are no longer getting software updates, and might not be able to run some apps.
