You really need an analyst to figure that out? Honestly, most BIG dot coms have a life span of x years. Nothing on the web lasts forever.

I was heavily involved with "social networking" via dial-up to individual bulletin boards, using "Slimer" (Silly Little Mail Reader) for mail. I saw the same pattern happen there. The novelty wears off, and people realize they are spending too much of their time on nothing of real substance. Social Networking is just an illusion of itself...

I think that Facebook will fade, but not completely disappear. sort of like MySpace, but MySpace didn't have great security.

I was on my space and am now am on Facebook, and Facebook is far superior in the way that it works. Any competitors would have a long way to go to make their replacement to Facebook as functional as FB. If someone tries to make a competitor and try to monetize it, they may find out that the way it works is not desirable to users. Right now we have Google +, and that is trying to make some headway, and maybe not too successfully.

Sometimes, when I listen to--or read--the various analyses of many businees, particularly those that are "media" oriented, I really have to wonder what causes them. Their bases are really pretty weak. Yes, you can drive something "to the wall" out of ego and ulterior motive; but give the same environment its "wings"; and I really think you'd be surprised at the amazing options that will present. Come on, guys. Evidence a little perspective.

The guy forgot to mention AOL wad the first big commercial attempt before Yahoo. AOL tried to build and keep people in its own world. Facebook is trying to do the same but trying to suck in the internet. AOL failed. Facebook will not become the internet.

>>AOL tried to build and keep people in its own world. <<

Like Apple as well. If you compare the brick wall iOS puts around everything you do on your phone compared to Android (which has it's share of flaws), Apple right now is probably the number 1 "trap in their own world" company. Plus they sue anyone who builds a rectangular object with a screen and you can talk on.
