I'd love to see Samsung put out a line of computers based on Linux with a solid advertising campaign behind them. Other hardware manufacturers (such as Dell) have done this in the past, minus the heavy advertising.

I suppose now that the biggest thread to Android is over (Oracle vs Google) Tizen may become the BSD of mobile operating systems. After all, it is faster and more effective to do what Amazon did and simply fork an Android compatible custom OS.

On the other hand, MeeGo looks like a good choice for developer because of its use of the QT GUI, which is more mature than Android's. Tizen, from a short research into this OS looks like MeeGo meets WebOS. In the end, the winner is not always the best solution, but the most popular early solution.

I don't mind having MeeGo, Tizen, and Android fighting for market as long as they take that market from Windows and iOS :-)

They all are Linux with a different development API on top. I hope just like KDE and Gnome, these projects can inter-operate in the future.

As the leader of mobile device sales Samsung is in a good position to market Linux on mobile devices. If they can do this and avoid the market fragmentation that has plagued Android they could become the real winner in mobile devices going forward!

I love Linux, and I hope Samsung uses it on their Tablets, PC's, and even phones. It IS possible with some modifications, and possibly a Samsung specific distro!

They are the clear winner for Android.

If Samsung were to migrate all of their phones to an Android variant Google should be worried. Android would be left to compete against Samsung, W8 and iOS with manufacturers that aren't gaining market share and loose money on those products. If their best horse leaves the barn then they will struggle with the race.

Right now they both need each other. In the future Samsung may not need Google. The opposite will not be true.
