I am staying occupied this summer by building my own cipher. On paper it's really neat, but in code its so complicated! (yuck!) I need more education to make this work better.

I call it the TGRcipher (TGR is said as Tiger)

The key used to encode/decode is a variable, that's the trick, I can use at least 2 different keys to hide a secret message, and it's not entirely possible to derive the rest of the message with only one key.

Example of the logic:

Key 1- The safe is hidden
Key 2- gold in the bank

Full phrase- The gold is hidden in the bank safe.

Apart they don't make that much sense, together they tell a secret.

I'm working on shortening words right now that way one can't guess it purely from the number of spaces on the page and I am integrating symbols into the paper form.

1 month in so far, I like it but this is gonna take a long time to perfect.

Have you ever experimented with making your own form of word cipher?
Even the experts started out as beginners

One trick I picked up was to hide the decryption key within the message. This way, the selected character positions within the text are the key to the rest of the text. This can be even doubled or tripled, so that even the second or third keys are also encrypted. I hope that doesn't sound too complicated. I've done some looking into hiding text within photo files. On a big photo, 5 MB or bigger, JPG, you can hide a 128 page document and not detract from the resolution. Pretty neat stuff.

You know if you google serch for Gigafide Tinkenrut YouTube Channel, and search his channel you can find one about making a program like that in VBS.
He also has lots of tips to hide files in files.
