I recently noticed I had no audio on any web page, in any browser. for direct web starts I use ff 12 portable, while I have chrome set as predetermined and it comes up if I follow a link in an email. on investigation I found I had no audio in any browser (ff12 <port&full>/ie8/chrome19) and hadn't really noticed since VLC and WMP and system sounds were working. I installed the newest versions of flash player & shockwave player and now ff works again, but ie8 & chrome still don't work (i did notice that chrome mentions it has it's own copy of flash player incorporated and has not been updated yet).
SYSTEM DATA
Acer Extensa 5230 laptop
win vista basic x86(sp2)
ff 12 (portable & full vers)
ie8
chrome 19.0.1984.52 (predetermined)
flash player 11.3.300.257 (ff)

-------------------
just downloaded & installed flash player & shockwave player from inside ie8 and now ie8 works.
when trying from chrome adobe says it is integrated and doesn't come up.

----------------------
after reading the help information on adobe about chrome's integrated flash player I disabled the 2 built-ins (ver 11.22.202 & 11.2.31.144) so it would have to go to the system version (11.3.300.257) and SUCCESS IT NOW WORKS :) :D

NOTE FOR OTHERS WITH PROBLEMS: Adobe's page detects which browser you are using and installs the version for that browser (ie version is different from non-ie) while google incorporates it's own version as part of it's update system and Adobe won't give you an update directly. so if you use various browsers you will have to do at least 4 downloads, 2 (flash & shockwave) using IE and 2 using another (not ie or chrome) browser.
if chrome is giving the problem due to an update not being pushed yet, you will have to install the non-ie system version then disable the incorporated version by going to <about:plugins> and clicking the <disable> button forcing chrome to use the system .dll until such time as google updates their file and you can turn it back on.

****today google updated to ver 19.0.1084.56 which included the new flash player vers, turned it back on and it works now.*****
