While strong passwords are better than weak ones, what does it matter if they'll be leaked at some point?

So long as corporations and their executives are not held accountable for negligent loss of customer privacy, password security will remain a minor issue.

what difference does it make if someone hacks into my linkedin account? the problem is that we are now required to safeguard too many accounts that contain no private information.

Yeah, and there's no humanly possible way to memorize that, so you end up writing it down or keeping it in plaintext (yeah, no one really uses password managers). So that's an open invitation to hackers, worse than the original problem.

writting passwords down is dumb, you need a password manager once you get past 100
