Most puzzling thing about the keynote for me was the round of applause for Facetime over cellular. Unless they've found some way to reduce the data load, I don't see how simply removing an artificial restriction they put there in the first place is worthy of applause.
If I dispute one single point in a post, that should not be taken as an indication that I agree/disagree with any other point made by that poster or anyone else in the thread. Or anywhere else. Ever.

Carriers are the ones that have kept FaceTime off 3G not Apple . They are probably using some type of compression like they do in the new Apple TV for HD video that does great compression and has great quality.

Yes—from the keynote itself it wasn't clear that they had modified the technology, but I gather they've improved both the compression and the resiliance to drop-outs, making it more useful over 3G.
