This seems like a weird idea since I suspect the vast majority of the incoming students will already have cell phones, and if smartphones, they are likely to be iPhones or Androids. Will they be expected to switch plans and numbers to the Nokias/AT&T (anyone else supporting the 900? Not the biggest mobile carrier, Verizon), or go around with 2 phones and 2 numbers?
This is not making much sense compared to tablets which can supplement phones, and just making the SHUmobile app available for those existing iPhones/Androids, rather than expecting these students to learn the far less common Windows Mobile ecosystem just to use that one unique app.
What are they thinking?

And exactly who said anything about AT&T branded Nokia Lumias? You just don't only unlock the Lumia to work with other Sim Cards, but there are unbranded versions available which would easily work across cell phone networks all around the world.

hahahaha, welcome to america bud, nice things like this dont happen here unless some corporation is benefiting. the phones will come will pre-paid service through AT&T for a semester. after that they can pay themselves or just use wi-fi (source: Engadget). rokky - microsoft and nokia are in cohoots, im guessing because that phone was not as successful as expected, and AT&T are bastards and want to suck the kids in, so the university is most likely paying nothing directly. great deal for the kids who dont keep paying for it tho, free wi-fi device/mp3 player, im jellin
