I can;t help but think this will go nowhere. A lot of people will be extremely inconvenienced and a bunch of lawyers will make a lot of money that never should have been theirs in the first place.

In the meantime, a hell of a lot of legitimate users are left stranded. When the Justice Department is done, i foresee civil suits. I'd go after the Justice Department myself - assuming they lose the case.

And like I said, I expect they will.

So Megaupload was able, at a reasonable cost, allow Mr. Goodwin to upload, view, and copy his videos without Mr. Goodwin needing the expertice of a forensic expert. However, now that the government has blocked use of Megaupload, a forensic expert is needed at an extreme cost to provide the services that Megaupload could provide Mr. Goodwin at a reasonable cost without the use of a forsenics expert. Hopefully, the judge will see through the smoke.

This wasn't MegaUpload's fault, this was entirely the greedy US music industry's fault for choosing not to obey laws they didn't like.

Depends if the judge/etc. is on the take. Money determines law, not justice.

Sounds like ransom to me. They should have taken into consideration the impact of their actions on legitimate users of the sight. This is similar to machine gunning everyone in a mall to be sure to catch the sniper.

This is another good reason to stay away from cloud computing.

If the recording industry and the US government caused the loss of legitimate data even if megaupload did infringe on copyrights because legitimate date is legitimate. Like said above a lot of lawyers will make a whole lot of money illegitimately. If the RIAA and the government loose (and if this is kept out of US courts they might) they (MOSTLY the riaa) should be required to pay the FULL cost of the data loss including costs by legitimate users in trying to recover their data.

I send a email to the Washington DC FBI Office, those who is responsible for closing down the Megaupload and they told me that the american goverment has said in a press release that they are trying to find a way to lett the legitiment users acess to their stored data. They are now disscusing that matter.
