From the article, "2880-by-1800-pixel screen that looks like a 1440-by-900 model--except for the fact that there are four pixels for every one on the older display. Just as on the iPad and iPhone, a retina display offers incredibly smooth, clear text and images with startling detail. It's quite funny to view a Final Cut Pro interface with roughly a quarter of the screen taken up with a video preview, only to realize that the video is playing back at full, native 1080p resolution with plenty of room to spare."
Wow!! If I didn't use my laptop so little now since the iPad, I'd seriously consider getting a new MBP, but I know it would probably mostly just sit on a desk, unused, just like my current laptop.

Since my iPad, I don't really pay much attention to the laptop market, but is there another laptop that has a Thunderbolt port? Unless there is, you'll be getting at roughly twice the resolution and a Thunderbolt port and an SSD, which means this thing could plug into a couple of big monitors and replace your desktop.

I kinda agree, while I prefer the Mac platform, $2200 isn't worth it. But if we wait a while it should go down sometime.....

How do you determine "price gouging?" I suspect that $900 for an ultrabook is way too much but what do I know? I think the new Macbook Pro is well worth the price. It may be too expensive for you because you value notebooks differently. If Apple is able to sell scores of millions (and I think they will) at that price point how is that gouging. Surely those who make that buying decision and have that sort of disposable resources available didn't fall off a snap bean truck at an early age. Isn't is more than a little arrogant to say that they are being gouged without understanding their needs, desires, and goals? Who are we to judge another woman/man's purchase?

Oh this machine is tempting isn't it?! With that display, and that video card, it is a beast. The only thing yet to be seen is what the image quality is like. I am sure it isn't terrible, but I am hoping for better than just "not bad." If the color range is a solid step up from the current MBP, than it is even more appetizing.

Very tempting, but I know it would just sit on the desk, and I'm probably going to send in my iMac for an SSD upgrade (http://eshop.macsale...op/turnkey/iMac) after getting back from Las Vegas anyway, so I'll be happy with the nice "upgrade" even if it's not a new machine

No Mac as ever had my spending. How is it that a Mac has your spending? Wouldn't you keep your spending for yourself? You could save for a while and maybe buy a Mac if you wanted one. I've heard people say that by the time you get the all features that the Mac has, you're spending just as much on a similarly configured PC, but even that is simply not true, just justification for buying shiny white things.
