I wouldn't spend the high prices on Macs, I'd much rather get a cheap laptop and install Ubuntu Linux.

From the article, "2880-by-1800-pixel screen that looks like a 1440-by-900 model--except for the fact that there are four pixels for every one on the older display. Just as on the iPad and iPhone, a retina display offers incredibly smooth, clear text and images with startling detail. It's quite funny to view a Final Cut Pro interface with roughly a quarter of the screen taken up with a video preview, only to realize that the video is playing back at full, native 1080p resolution with plenty of room to spare."
Wow!! If I didn't use my laptop so little now since the iPad, I'd seriously consider getting a new MBP, but I know it would probably mostly just sit on a desk, unused, just like my current laptop.

It's good that you have that choice. Different people have different requirements and priorities.

The MBP has computers beat on the display only. You can get a lighter, thinner, just as powerful, ultrabook somewhere else. OK albeit with a nvidia 640 instead of 650 - for about 1000-1300 bucks. So for 1000-1300 bucks more, you get to have a higher display in a small form factor, than anyone else, for 6 months.

That isnt worth is sorry !!

Wow, I'd actually consider this if not for the fact that Apple needs to fail.

The constant bogus lawsuits they throw like candy builds bad press.

That is the stupidest rational I've ever heard a PC person have. Are you serious? What the other computer companies don't sue anyone? I guess stealing look and feel and patents are all right with you just as long as Apple is the one getting sued.

And just for the record. By the time you get the features that the Mac has your spending just as much.

Since my iPad, I don't really pay much attention to the laptop market, but is there another laptop that has a Thunderbolt port? Unless there is, you'll be getting at roughly twice the resolution and a Thunderbolt port and an SSD, which means this thing could plug into a couple of big monitors and replace your desktop.

No you're not. Not even close. They're price gouging. Accept it.

I kinda agree, while I prefer the Mac platform, $2200 isn't worth it. But if we wait a while it should go down sometime.....

I'm calling it the Air Pro, that's kind of what it is. Less of a mouthful then "macbook pro with retina display".

How do you determine "price gouging?" I suspect that $900 for an ultrabook is way too much but what do I know? I think the new Macbook Pro is well worth the price. It may be too expensive for you because you value notebooks differently. If Apple is able to sell scores of millions (and I think they will) at that price point how is that gouging. Surely those who make that buying decision and have that sort of disposable resources available didn't fall off a snap bean truck at an early age. Isn't is more than a little arrogant to say that they are being gouged without understanding their needs, desires, and goals? Who are we to judge another woman/man's purchase?

Oh this machine is tempting isn't it?! With that display, and that video card, it is a beast. The only thing yet to be seen is what the image quality is like. I am sure it isn't terrible, but I am hoping for better than just "not bad." If the color range is a solid step up from the current MBP, than it is even more appetizing.

Yes, actually they are. Do some research, then accept it yourself.

Very tempting, but I know it would just sit on the desk, and I'm probably going to send in my iMac for an SSD upgrade (http://eshop.macsale...op/turnkey/iMac) after getting back from Las Vegas anyway, so I'll be happy with the nice "upgrade" even if it's not a new machine :)

No Mac as ever had my spending. How is it that a Mac has your spending? Wouldn't you keep your spending for yourself? You could save for a while and maybe buy a Mac if you wanted one. I've heard people say that by the time you get the all features that the Mac has, you're spending just as much on a similarly configured PC, but even that is simply not true, just justification for buying shiny white things.

I'm hoping for an iMac with a 4K retina display, since I don't need mobility.
