So if I personally used "e-mail" before 1978 is it fair of me to say that V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai couldn't have invented it? If I wrote a simple single-system "e-mail" propgram in 1973 wouldn't it be fair of me to claim the title myself? There may indeed be specific claims by V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai (including coining the term "e-mail") that are valid, but the claim he invented "e-mail" holds about as much water as a claim that Chomsky invented Linguistics.

What else is new? Chomsky has never been right about anything outside the field of linguistics. Period.
