Keep in mind that prepaid carriers are offering much better deals, depending on what your usage is. (ex: for 4 dumbphones and 1 smartphone, with my family's usage, I'd pay $130 through Verizon currently, $210 under the new plans, or $70/month through tmobile prepaid. Factor in the costs of the phones, and how much you'd have to pay upfront through Verizon, plus the verizon activation fees and the fact that a decent vzw dumbphone is $70 and $50 on tmobile, and in my case it'd be same either way... Yes, and one's contact and one's not.)

Check out Net 10 for good prepaid dumb phones. I pay $30 every 2 moths for 300 mins.
It comes down to nickel text messages and 10 cent calls.
Plus my minutes roll over every month. I use mine mainly for emergencies so this works out great and dirt cheap for me.
I think they have some smart phones now but havent looked at the prices recently.
Anyway, something you might want to look into. May save you more money, just according to what your family needs are.

The problem with that is when the minutes expire. For instance, the $100 plan lasts for 6 months. (I'm sure that no one in my family will be able to use that up before the expiration date.) Tmobile's $100 plan (1000 min) expires in a year.
