Hey guys,
I've been trying to reinstall Windows XP on a computer, but setup won't format the partition to finish installing. Anyone have any ideas why?

What prompted this desire to reinstall XP? I ask this question because the first thought that came to mind as to the reason for your present problem is the possibility that there is something wrong with your hard drive. If this is the case, it may have caused you to suspect a problem with XP, when the true problem was the hard drive.

Well originally, the computer belonged to my younger brothers so it wasn't really taken care of. I'm just trying to wipe the whole thing clean cause I'm taking it with me to school in the fall. I tried again to set it up and it formatted the partition and installed the OS, so I guess the problem fixed itself.

I'm glad to hear it was a temporary problem. Best wishes in school.

I had heard that people had problems when they got Vista PC and tried to install XP. The problem there when Vista was released most computer vendors used SATA hard drives and when XP was released it IDE drives were commonplace. So in order to go backwards the SATA driver needed to be installed first. But that wasn't your problem.
