I agree with the lack of concentration and anxiety of being too plugged in. Struggling with that myself. However, it doesn't need to be labeled as a disorder. We need self control and discipline...

In other words, people who have nothing better to do than sit around and surf the net... people who are not motivated to get out and actually do things... are more likely to be depressed?

Well, DUH!

If those conclusions are accurate, I should certainly be concerned about my mental well-being, as should anyone who’s even moderately tech literate or employed and using the Internet to do work, for that matter.

This is one of the daftest statements I've seen concerning science reporting. To say that there is a correlation between these patterns of activity and depression in no way implies that anyone who uses the Internet in this way should be concerned they're suffering from depression. That's like saying that because most Japanese people are shorter than Westerners, Yasutaka Okayama should be concerned he's American.
If I dispute one single point in a post, that should not be taken as an indication that I agree/disagree with any other point made by that poster or anyone else in the thread. Or anywhere else. Ever.

So basically these two computer geeks without any psychological training is going to try to sell software that tells when your getting depressed. That's about right, and you can just about figure that there may be tech support for the software, but no tech support for the psychological side of things.
They'll probably find a few dummies to buy this software, which is sad....
