Your kidding right? Like someone is going to just discard a 4 or 5 hundred item. You would give it to a family member that needs or wants one or sell it.

I actually love some of these ideas, especially #2 which I actually thought of a couple of weeks ago.

If all else fails, a used-up 1st gen. iPad makes a superb Frisbee for Frisbee Golf.

What an embarrassing article. You shouldn't enable the idiots who would chuck a $500+ perfectly fine device just so they can get an upgrade. The epitome of human greed and materialism right here.

Can use an "old" ipad as a video monitor out of a large camera? It would certainly be a hell of a lot better than the already attached and way too small LCD screen.

If you must upgrade, skip this stupid list and give your old iPad to a family member, friend, or a local high school.

"Repurpose" is one of the words that should be banned from use.

Have any others to add to the list?

Why would anyone buy a new Ipad. The first Ipad does the same as the "new" Ipads... they are still big iphones without the phones. Mobile browsing, e-reading... and words with friends. I dont see why waste money to "treat yourself" to a new same thing.

If you already have a working Ipad, keep it... and wait for a W8 tablet. Having both technologies is the way to go.

#10 contains one of the best solutions. Give that Ipad away to some deserving charity. Even better, send it off to those Chinese workers who built it but could never afford it at its highly inflated retail prices.

There are kids without anything to access the Internet or play a freaking game and you so desperately want to turn yours into a photo frame because it is not trendy among your friends?
Being successful and having money is not bad, it is nice to hear you're doing well and you certainly have the right to do whatever you want with your own money, many of us as geeks love to have the most current gadgets, but how about being a sensible human being and donate it to someone in need. I bet you have a relative, friend or even a coworker who can't afford one, or how about give it to one of your readers who had to put up with this show-off inconsiderate BS?

You could always donate it to charity. I work with a special needs respite care unit for children and they would love something like that. I have seen a lot of non-verbal children progress unbelieveable amounts using an Ipad.
