Hey,Can someone either tell me or post a link where I can detailed information on how to transfer files from my TIVO to my PC ? There looks to be a USB port on the back of my Series 2 single tuner Tivo DVR. But It's the flat female plug like on the back of a PC.....as in I think I might be able to hook a controlling device such as a mouse into it but not an out to my pc directly ? Any ideas on this?I read about the USB wireless adapter and using tivo2go but I want to try and avoid having to buy more add ons for the damn thing. I guess if someone knows the most cheapest simplest way to accomplish moving files from it to my PC I would greatly appreciate it.Thanks guys.-vodmare.

If you have a Series2 Tivo, then Tivo2Go is your best bet. I've never used it, as I have a Mac at home and Tivo didn't (at the time) make a Mac version. (I now have a Series 3, and none of the Tivo2Go options are compatible with it, sadly.)I have the wireless adapter for my TiVo and it is fantastic. It seems a small investment (I think I got mine for $40) for lots of hours of entertainment.

Thanks for the info. I should just go ahead and stop being such a stiff. It's a series 2 single tuner DVR that was $50 with a $50 mail in rebate! So $40 is not a bad investment.-vodmare.

And it should work with any Tivo you purchase in the future -- it's a standard USB plug that goes right in that spot you were talking about earlier.

Wait, doesn't this require me to also have a wireless network card in the old desktop?Dammit! I knew I was getting screwed somehow....lol. :D-vodmare.

Honestly, I'm not sure. The only one I have actually used was the one at my parents' house, and they have their computers on the wireless network as well. I'm sure the Tivo2Go page on the Tivo site would probably give you more information on the specific requirements for both your computer and Tivo.

The only way to get files from the TiVo to a PC (without hacking) is TiVoToGo, and that requires a network connection from the TiVo to the PC. The S2DT and S3 have an Ethernet port, older S2 boxes need a USB adapter for Ethernet - and all of them need a USB adapter for WiFi.See http://www.tivo.com/adapters for a list of compatible adapters. For WiFi the ONLY one you should consider is the TiVo branded one. Seriously. It is the only one that supports WPA and performance is FAR better than any other adapter since it was engineered specifically for the TiVo. And just try to find one of the other WiFi adapters - you'll go crazy. You will, of course, need a network adapter for the PC as well - wired or WiFi. If you use Wired, you can use a cross-over Ethernet cable and connect the two directly. With WiFi you can use an Ad Hoc network and also connect them directly. But if you have broadband at home it is best to put the TiVo on the network anyway - because that also enables features like TiVoCast, Amazon Unbox, music & photos, etc.
