Why does everyone seem to be forgetting that with the shared minutes and texting plans available now, that any one person who hogs it will take up the allotment for the whole family?

Oh, and I think I can translate this:
"Asked why Verizon doesn’t charge the same rate for the same amount of extra data regardless of whether you exceed your plan limit, Raney replied: “We’d rather they [customers] have a positive experience with their service, and not go over their limit.”"

We'd like to maximize our profits while appearing as illogical as possible, while simultaneously pissing off customers.

And anyway, so much for the argument that cellular networks are overloaded and thus they need to discontinue unlimited data, trying to get people to use more...

I seem to remember the days of analog cellular service and bundles that were priced into the stratosphere. It would cost you $1,000 a month to own a cell phone "brick". Now, if you are only using voice services you can pay about $50 a month for that. Fast forward twenty years and now we're complaining about $300 a month data services. I think if we fast forward ten years that will drop down to about $50 a month as well and we'll be complaining about $300 a month "hologram" services.

Hmm, I wonder why Sprint is still able to offer unlimited data plans and Veri$on and all the other carriers are not?

If I'm correct about this, that $1000 a month back in the late 80's was geared toward companies who were paying for cell phone service for their top-level employees to do business. It wasn't yet for the average home consumer.

I have been with Verizon for 11 years and plan to dump them when my contract is up at the end of July. I have had a single line with smartphone for the last 4 years. They just drove up my rates quite a bit. Prepaid here I come.

Shame on Verizon for they are cheating us, their customers, big time.
And a bigger shame on us, their customers, if we stay with this cheating and crooked company.
They even took away the Vaseline and are raping us all big time.
May Verizon go and burn in hell.
I hate Verizon.

Vasaline is extra. It's 15 extra if you ask for it, but 20 extra if you don't ask. It's in the fine print. You know, so you have a "better experience"

Verizon can "shove it" the minute my unlimited goes away. I'll buy the phone to keep it, but i'd rather the money go to apple than verizon anyway. They rip off enough people and this new plan(s) prove how criminal they are and how stupid they think the public is.

Ah, the prerogative of the oligopolist! The sheer beauty. They can pretty much do what they want, charge what they want. Unless there's a bidding war, which their "competitors" won't start, there's nothing to be done. Angry Verizon users leave for AT&T. Angry AT&T users leave for Verizon. Data plans are still limited and overall prices go up. Unless people would simply be willing to drop out, they know they have us all over a barrel.

It is an interesting move. Actually, thinking about the existing plans you buy a smartphone at a substantial discount which Verizon, of course, factors in to the two year obligation so the difference which they pay up front is made up. But, what happens then, even though Verizon has been making a profit off your payments for the two years, if you keep your device, the payment remains the same and the profit skyrockets.
The new plans are clearly designed to make it even more difficult to stay within the lower limits allowed. My wife and I have not used 2 Gb yet on either of our smartphones but when the day comes when we're forced off the unlimited plan, or perhaps pay full price for a new phone while keeping the same payment, we are gone.
This isn't business - offering a better product than the competition, this is a scam and the so called competition is licking its lips - wonder if they're even giving Verizon a kickback.

I'm usually against Corporate Profiterring, but in this case, I'll make an exception, I like the new plans, and I picked one of them. Here is why.

I was paying 139.99 for 450 anytime minutes, unlimited text, and 20 gigs of data. I only went over 10 gigs once, and I was always red-lining my phone minutes. There are a couple of blogtalkradio.com shows I like to call in/frequent, and they start very early 7pm. I was in need of more minutes, but to add them sould have cost me another 20/30 bucks. So, I needed more minutes, but less data.

I'm paying about the same (138.18) but I'm getting more of what I need, which is more anytime minutes. I picked the 12 gig package, which is perfect for me. I get a "Cushion" of sorts if I ever go over 10 gigs, I get the minutes I need, AND I still have unlimited texting. I can't really complain. I'm actually satisfied with my new plan. I know it might not work for a lot of people, but it works well for me and my needs, and that's what counts.

I hate Verizon Wireless! I have three family members with 2.5 year old smart phones, and one family member with a regular phone. When I tried to upgrade the smart phones, I was told by Verizon that I will have to change my plan in order to upgrade. We will no longer have unlimited data. The total cost of the Share Everything plan will be about $30 per month more than what I am currently paying. So, I get less service for a higher cost. If you call Verizon Customer Service, they place you on hold for 30+ minutes. Once I finally got through, Customer Service informs me that I would have been grandfathered in with my existing data plan if I had upgraded the phones last Thursday, June 28. How was I supposed to know that? Verizon did not send out any notice to their customers about this mandated change in their plans. I have been a Verizon customer since 1999. Is this proper treatment for a loyal customer? I guess they don't need my business.

Well, Verizon's liabilities are 194bn against a worth of 234bn. They have 50bn in long term debt. Essentially this is a cash in and cash out business. They really need to do something. These telcos sure carry a lot of of debt.

Now with Verizon forcing people to take a “share everything plan” which costs them more money, it is assumed that at&t will follow suite. However I think at&t is now in a position to capitalize on verizon’s blunder. If at&t were to keep their rates the same, but offer even more minutes and data at the same price, I believe this would cause a mass exodus from Verizon.
Verizon may have the greatest network on earth, and a Rolls Royce may be the symbol of luxury, but you won’t find one parked in my driveway.
At&t, if your listening, this could be your slam dunk, take the shot.

Its because the carrier isnt satisfied with its 7 billion a year in only text service and they want more money like most of corporate America. I am glad I just left VZW and accidentally forgot to pay my ETF. I suggest everyone else do it and bankrupt them.

Oh, come on. Hate? A thing? Do you actually believe this garbage? I will assess my options at the end of my contract. If I can't find a better deal, I'll stay with Verizon. I don't think the new plan will make a big deal for me, but if it does, I'll make a RATIONAL decision on what to do. Verizon provides a quality service and that is actually worth more than companies like T-Mobile who have unbelievably BAD service and even worse customer service. That's why they always have the lowest prices. Duh.

In my experience, tmobile's network isn't as great, but it's good enough. Also, their customer service is just as good as Verizon's, if not better.

Verizon needs a better spin-doctor. Brenda Raney's assertions sound like, and are, pale excuses for an upcoming marketing disastrophe.

This will rank with Edsel, New Coke and Netflix' busted pay plan.

No spin-doctor can fix this customer toe-stepping.
