The author must not follow Microsoft news. Microsoft announced that Windows RT licenses will be free in an effort to pacify their hardware partners.
HP is smart to focus on business users. IT guys have been worried about the security iPad and Android tablets. This gives them a secure tool to deploy to business users that will at least match the need previously filled by the iPad.

I don't get it, Microsoft has to look after its interest also. I believe Microsoft stock shares are under $30 per share while Apple's is well over $500 per share. Apple is the number 3 valued company in the world, Microsoft is well down the chart. If I were in charged of Microsoft, I would not only make tablets but laptops and desktops and anything else that is profitable.

Windows RT is completely useless in a business environment. None of your considerable investment in Windows software can be used in WinRT. HP is smart to market a x86 device allowing businesses to run their existing Windows apps in a tablet form factor with a full version of Windows. iPad's have a use, but are not a replacement for Windows computers & software. If the price is right for this HP device, it could be very popular, very quickly in a corporate environment.

Isnt it kind of obvious that businesses will prefer x86 over ARM.

I doubt many businesses will even consider Windows 8 period!

Can I get a link or citation? I can't find this *anywhere*. As far as I can tell, Rt still is 85$.

Pretty sure Jake misread "license fee" for "license free"...

The author forgot to mention the Windows RT will come with Windows Office. This OS will still be relevant to some business. Only business having a special programs will need the Windows 8 Pro.

Having say that, it still make sense for business to use the Windows Pro 8 and HP is right on track. My company (more than 50,000 employees) use HP hardware and a few Apple product for the executives to look cool. They hardly use them (that is why they have secretaries using HP computers). I cannot wait until Windows 8 and the HP tablets comes out. I know I can use it right away, taking some of the special software with me on the field on a HP tablet.

Business users? Lets be honest, most of them are still using XP. Polls have shown the majority of businesses will simply update to Windows 7 when Win8 comes. They are notorious for using old OS's. If MS wants Win8 to succeed, they better start showing non-business consumers why they need to get it. These non-business consumers are the ones who are going to be the early adopters.

Windows RT licenses free? I find that hard to believe. And google didnt find any web page stating that when i searched. Mind posting a link? And does this mean consumers can simply install Windows 8 RT to their touchbased devices without having to pay for it?

The company I work for (>10k employees) just did a massive refresh of some 9k PCs with Win 7. Seeing that 7 and 8 run the same software with equal ease (and 8 is a lighter OS, so the desktops will last a bit longer when they're refreshed in a couple years).

The tablet market needs to do more for enterprise. This includes things like digital notetaking for those who like to take notes during a meeting (and no, typing is not the same) which they can recover easily with secure cloud storage and review easily without having reams of paper to do it.
